The Kerala Monsoon (Haiku Poems)

Coconut trees sway
In the crazy monsoon winds--
Rain in Kerala!

***********************

It's been raining here
Since morning without an end -
Earth's thirst is quenched!

hi geets. Glad to know you're back but sorry to have missed you. Since there was no e-mail address given, didn't know where to contact you. Who was the girl your brother got married to by the way?

Francier: Thanks for stopping by. I like your new version of the nursery rhyme.

Hillgrandmom: She's from Chakkalayil. You must be knowing Lalli Kochamma if you are into the flower show and stuff. Another couple I met was a handsome couple from Padinjarekkara. Then Ramesh Kovoor and Sisy...I met a lot of people....

Geets, never living thru the Monsoon rains, all I know about them is what I have learned from reading others blogs. I have seen days, even sometimes a full week of rain at a time, but never months of rain and then months when it never rains. I guess it is something you get used to if you grow up with them. Like us being used to having snow for a few months of the year. If you grow up with snow, then you learn to expect to see it every winter. Glad to see you back.

Geets, here is a little dittie I grew up with:

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day,
Little Johnny wants to play.

Think there was a little more to it, just can`t remember at the moment. Such a useless saying, but for some reason I still remember it from when I was small.

Hey dot!
you must really experience the monsoon in Kerala. They now have monsoon packages for tourists,I hear.

The next 2 lines of the verse are:
Rain, rain, go to Spain
Do not show your face again

Jac: while you are in Kerala, do take a good picture of the monsoon rain for me so that I can post it with my rain poems (with due credit to u!)

Thanks Geets.
I hadn`t heard the end of that poem since I was a little girl and had forgotten it.
Next winter when we get hammered with lots of snow, I will think of you and your monsoon months of rain followed by your months of arid conditions. At least we can shovel paths and roads and still get around town much easier than you can in the floods. Guess we shouldn`t complain when we get a few days in a row of rain as we can still drive around where I live. Some other areas get flooded, but not where I live.
Have a great week-end. it is Thursday here, is it already friday there now? I know Australia is a day ahead, not sure about your country.

How sweet of you, Dot!

Hi geets, Can I tag you for the new Tag going around. To see what this Tag is about, go to my blog and read mine as I was Tagged by November Rain. This is an easier Tag to do, at least I think so.
Thanks.
